Adoptionism

Adoptionism is the belief that there is only an association of the divine and human in Christ; that is, not a perfect union of the divine and human in the one person of Jesus Christ. The idea is that Christ was born a man, but was adopted by God to be his son. This movement was considered a heresy in the early Christian church, but, today, it is a common belief. Adoptionism, however, is antithetical to most traditional church dogmas, including the Catholic Church.
